Ela Owen is a final-year medical student at The University of Liverpool. She is currently on placement at the Countess of Chester Hospital preparing for her first year of being a doctor.
Ela took a year out of her medical studies to pursue her interest in sexual and reproductive health by completing a Master’s degree at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. As part of the course, she conducted research focusing on the progress made in genital herpes research in low- and middle-income countries over the last 20 years.
In addition to genital herpes, one of Ela’s particular interests within sexual and reproductive health includes improving access and quality of care for LGBTQ+ individuals.
In her spare time Ela loves wild swimming in the cold waters of North Wales and cooking Asian food for friends and family!
